70s years
Founding of KVH Ostrava

The Napoleonic tradition in our republic started in the 30's. It was the founding of the Napoleonic Company in Prague that helped with the building of Mohyla míru in the village Prace. It was cancelled during the Second World War. Nothing similar to this had ever occurred. Only the soldiers, policemen and firemen wore the uniforms. It wasn´t demanding to keep different army-historical traditions except the reverence of the Soviet Red Army. But still people were still interested in older history. In the 70's the antiquarians of the weapons met together at the commodity exchanges.

One of them, P. Bernatik, came up with an idea to found a club, which would peak the interest of people in the period of Napoleonic wars. In 1972 a historical club was founded in Ostrava. The first members were Václav Řeha, Josef Smékal, František Mádr, Mr. Měšťánek, Josef Olšar and Karel Kocián Their clubroom was in Přívozská in Ostrava. They didn´t want to only to discuss history, they wanted to use their guns as well, which is why they entered the Union for Cooperation with the Army in 1976 in Petřvald and then founded the tradition of meeting the riflemen.

The beginning of Austerlitz

In the year they learned from the magazine that Belgian N. Brassine from Waterloo is going to come to Austerlitz in December, 2. It was written there that the man is supposed to be a putative descendant of N. soldier and that he will come on the battle field wearing the uniform. They met with him and agreed that they will come next year wearing all uniforms. They kept their promises. The uniforms they rented from the theatre. They first ones that appeared at Austerlitz were of French grenadier and Austrian hussar. Their weapons were originals. The replicas didn´t exist at those times. This was how the tradition was founded.
From 1979 they took part in reconstructions/re-enactments regularly, they organized the journeys to the battlefield. The soldiers from Praha, Brno, Hradec Králové a Josefov joined as well. But still the soldiers resembled more or less the itinerant theatre rather then the regular army. Except the grenadiers there appeared also fields marshals, generals and even Mamelukes there. The fights were hectic and dangerous, but they fought with great enthusiasm. The accidental audience had an opportunity to see the fighting on Saturday afternoon and the laying of wreths near the mound on Sunday morning. Later on there was served the mass even. This tradition is kept till today except the year 1987.

Moving to Tvarožná

Undesirable activities were tolerated by the state power till the year mentioned above. But then the reconstructions/re-enactments were forbiden by the chairman ONV Vyškov. In his opinion it was the act of propaganda of militarism. Thanks to the understanding of Mr Gallé, a chairman in Tvarožná the activity performed.

Coorporation with the foreign troops

From the year 1977 the troops from Belgium went to Austerlitz, from 1979 the members of KVH Ostava cooperated together with the unit from Leipzig and form 1985 form Jena. In 1981 they fought near Leipzig, in1984 they went through 38 kilometers long journey from Liebertwokwith to Gro gorschen and back. They met a Frenchman A. Piegard there, who gave him valuable information about the uniforms. The soldiers of the Soviet garrison found their own unit and in 1989 the were invited to Borodino.

Hradec Králové

The members of KVH Ostrava didn´t concentrate only on Austerlitz. From 1976 they visited regularly the battlefield near Hradec Králové, They built a campsite here, visited the battlefield and they laid the wreths at the sight of Baterie mrtvých on Sunday. It was tolerated for many years. But in 1987 there was a mass in the local church in which the soldiers took part. Then they invited a priest into their campsite. On Sunday morning they marched into the memorial, where they wanted to lay the wreths. But there was also an Austrain military attaché and TV stuff. R. Nacházel came closer to him and gave a report. It was too much. Immediately after attaché´s departure the police unit came with water cannons and called out: In the name of the republic, disperse! This meeting is not legal! They were asked to show their documents and arrested. The priest had to move abroad. The film document was imponded.

90s years

In these years the office obstacles disappeared and the club could legally exist. In the unit there were 30 members, well-equipped and trained; they even had their own drummer and a flag. But freedom brought disagreements. In 1989 the unit was devided into French and Austrain parts. The unit took part abroad (e.g. Waterloo 1990, Maregano, Loano, Milano, Tolentino) and as an extras performed in films. From 1996 the unit from Nový Jičín took the lead. After 1997 KVH didn´t perfom any of their own activities. Only the first members remained who had to take part in events as mercenaries together with foreign units.

After the year 2000

The rest of the members didn´t wish KVH OV to be cancelled and in 2001 they started with the reorganization. Sixteen people came at the first meeting. As the leader it was chosen L. P. During the first year many actions passed. We took part in Sarzana, Großgörschen, Klimkovice, Zlaté Hory, Lepzig, Jena a Austerlitz. The unit started training the commands and finishing with the equipment.
In the year 2002 there were about 33 members. These people organized activities at the Hukvaldy Castle (The day of Marie Teresie), took part in, Klimkovice, Frýdek - Místek and Austerlitz. In the year 2003 we even had 47 members. KVH OV became the one of the founding members of the organization CENS. We organized the action at the Hukvaly Castle again (country rebellion 1776-1778), we took part in Chlumec, Rožnov pod Radhoštěm, Dennewitz and Austerlitz. The new coming members were trained and equiped.
Today KVH Ostrava is again a great powerful organization well equiped and trained. The supreme command has the rank of captain, we have got two corps, an office cadet and a drummer.
